Join adult ballet and contemporary dancers from Melbourne, regional Victoria, interstate Australia and the wider Australasia dance community for the AABC Adult Ballet Competition & Festival 2027.

Presented by Adult Ballet Centre Melbourne, the festival offers three ways to participate:

• Attend Friday’s adult ballet repertoire masterclass

• Join two Adult Ballet Centre classes on Saturday

• Compete at the Shirley Burke Theatre on Sunday

• Select one experience or combine all three

Festival dates: Friday 13 to Sunday 15 August 2027
Festival studios: Arnold Street Studio, Adult Ballet Centre, Cheltenham
Competition venue: Shirley Burke Theatre, Parkdale, Melbourne

Registrations open: September 2026
Competition entries close: 1 July 2027, or earlier if capacity is reached

Friday Repertoire Masterclass

Begin your festival weekend with a dedicated adult ballet repertoire masterclass at Adult Ballet Centre.

Develop artistry, musicality, interpretation and performance quality through carefully guided repertoire coaching. The masterclass is open to dancers whether or not they are competing on Sunday.

Date: Friday 13 August, 2027
Time: Three session for allocate levels and Contemporary dance for two allocated levels
Location: Adult Ballet Centre, Arnold Street, Cheltenham
Guest teacher: Former Australian Ballet Company Artists and Former Royal Ballet and English National Ballet.
Suitable level: from Foundation to Advanced
Registration fee: $65 + 10% GST

Places will be limited to protect the quality of the coaching experience.

Saturday ABC Training Experience

Train alongside the Adult Ballet Centre community in our professionally equipped Cheltenham studios.

Visiting dancers can select two classes from the available Saturday timetable, matched to their current ballet experience and training level. This is an opportunity to experience ABC’s supportive adult ballet training while connecting with dancers from our Melbourne community.

Location: Adult Ballet Centre, Arnold Street, Cheltenham
Two-class registration: $65.00 +GST

Once you have registered you will be given special festival booking credits, these can be used to selected your preferred classes, you will receive a confirmation email to confirm you booking.

Class places are subject to availability. Dancers who are unsure of their appropriate level can request placement guidance during registration, by emailing manager@adultballetcentre.com

Sunday Adult Ballet and Contemporary Competition

Step onto the stage at the Shirley Burke Theatre for an encouraging and professionally presented competition created specifically for adult dancers.

Each competition session will begin with an included onstage warm-up class. This will help dancers prepare physically, experience the stage surface and become comfortable within the theatre before performing.

Dancers will perform before experienced adjudicators and receive constructive feedback recognising:

• Technique and quality of movement

• Artistry and musicality

• Interpretation

• Performance and presentation

• Individual development

Date: Sunday 15 August, 2027
Venue: Shirley Burke Theatre, Parkdale, Melbourne
Competition times: Individual session times will be released after entries close we have drafted the morning for Onstage class - Foundation, Masters , Groups, followed by the second section Onstage class Groups, Intermediate and Advanced then Final Awards.

*The final competition schedule will be developed from confirmed entries. Entrants should remain available across 10 am to 5pm, until their session has been allocated.
